A Serious note about News Coverage and Israel

Just like the rest of the Middle East, there has been much upheaval and terror in Israel as of late. A bus station bombing, the murder of an innocent family, Rockets being fired into Israel, Bombings into Gaza as a response. Not a good situation all around. Terrible tragedies in the face of a tumultuous time in that region and in our broader world.

Lately though, there’s been a status among Israel supporters (of which I consider myself one) floating around and being reposted that has really been bugging me.

It reads:

“In the last 3 days over 70 missiles were fired into Israel. A bomb was strapped to a phone booth at a Jerusalem bus station, killing one and seriously injuring 3 others. Last week a Palestinian terrorist walked into the house of the Fogel family and murdered Rabbi Fogel, his wife and 3 of his 6 children with a kitchen knife. None of this has been given media coverage. Put this as your status to show your support”

Without getting too much into it, and I could, here is my revised version of this same status which pretty much says what I think of the whole thing.

In the last 3 days over 70 missiles were fired into Israel.

All of this was given media coverage:

etc…

Copy and paste this post if you support Israel, find these attacks appalling and terrible but think that maybe, just maybe, in the face of events that have far greater global ramifications and involve the lives of significantly more people (Japan Nuclear Meltdowns, Libya etc.) the so called global attention of media coverage might be better spent NOT totally trained 100% on Israel.

Passive aggressive rant over.

Preparing for angry responses…. Go.
