Malcolm in the Middle and Scrubs take place in the same universe. 

This screenshot is from the Malcolm episode Home Alone 4 from season 1. That nurse in the background is Laverne from Scrubs. This episode obviously takes place before Turk and JD show up, but the hospital could totally be Sacred Heart.
